Xiamen’s 观音山国际商务营运中心 (Guanyinshan International Business Center) was a development project I passed by a while back. At the time, I was amazed of the concept: to created a new “downtown” in an area that used to be nothing and to attract high-profile business headquarters.
So much for that. The place looks unchanged a year later: near empty.
Constructed along the coast, it did, however, manage to host this weekend’s 2011 Qiaodan National Beach Volleyball Championships. As usual, it was a great photo op. I’ve never seen so many tanned Yaomings in one place.
On the return transit, I caught a glimpse of an enormous resort/hotel called “The Royal Victoria” or something similarly British, as well as what looked like a marina under construction. The Chinese Miami? Will be back to investigate.
